Pizza in Tiruvalla?

This was a search that some desperate poor soul did online yesterday and was directed to my blog. From what I read, Pizza Corner, Pizza Hut, Domino’s or even McDonalds have no plans of risking Kerala anytime soon. We may have Pissa Moola or Pissa Kudil run by the Kerala State Fast Food Department in 10 years.

And while on the subject, I was in Kerala when the whole furore erupted against Reliance and Big Bazaar. As usual there were debates on Asianet, Asianet Plus, Asianet News, Jeevan News, Amruta News, Kairalee News (I am sure I missed another half a dozen). One debate was amusing, there was a rep of the indigenous trader’s union pitted against a ‘progressive thinker’ (now that’s an anomaly in Kerala. You are not a true mallu if you are progressive). The trader was spewing the numbers of traders who would be effected and their anticipated losses. The progressive man narrated a true incident that summed up the real problem. He said that one of his neighbours had a few plantain trees and when the fruit was mature he sold it to the neighbourhood shop for a rupee a kilo. Three days later, he had guests so he went to the same shop and bought plantains from the same bunch he sold. He had to pay four rupees a kilo. The shopkeeper charged him three rupees more for storing it in his shop and selling it. I don’t want to get into the politics of it, but it really is unfair.

I am sorry dude, it may be easier to move to Thiruvananthapuram or Palghat and dialing the Pizza Corner numbers in Kanyakumari or Coimbatore when they set up outlets there. For now you will have to survive on banana roast or parippuvada. You can’t even get a Coke to go with it, since they have been packed off as well.
